False Economy of not replacing your Grommet Strips

I often suggest to players that it’s a good idea to renew grommet strips/bumpers that have become worn through use. Often this is seen as an unnecessary expense. These photos show why it can be false economy not to.

The orange string was taken from this Tecnifibre 125 and you can clearly see how the string is being worn away due to the bumper strip no longer providing adequate protection. The second photo shows the racket restrung in Ashaway Supernick XL Micro string.

Even at just 1.18mm thick note how it protrudes beyond the bumper strip leaving it very vulnerable to premature wear. This is just one reason why it might be best to renew a worn grommet strip, I can get replacements within 24hrs for almost all current/recently manufactured rackets and they start at just £8 with free fitting whilst replacing strings.
